Faculty Call: Volunteer Lecturers and Research Mentors.

Who we want: working scientists, engineers, historians, librarians, makers, licensed ham operators, emergency-management professionals, and graduate students who want teaching and research-mentoring experience.

Roles (honest titles).

  • Visiting Lecturer (volunteer): teach or co-teach 1 to 3 sessions of a course; review AI Faculty material in your field.
  • Adjunct Instructor (volunteer, non-accredited): lead one 6 to 8 week course.
  • Graduate Research Fellow (mentor): supervise 2 to 4 students’ research deliverables.

What you get.

  • Your name and bio on the Perlas University faculty page (with your OK), and credit on every lesson or paper you shape.
  • Co-authorship credit on open research notes published by the Perlas Foundation.
  • A written letter documenting your teaching and mentoring hours.
  • Students and a ready-made curriculum, AI teaching assistants, and freedom to adapt the syllabus.
  • Teaching experience for your CV, stated honestly as a non-accredited, community education program.

Pay, honestly: these roles are unpaid volunteer roles today. If the Foundation raises funds, we will offer a small per-session stipend and publish the amount first; nothing is promised until it is funded. Graduate students should check with their department or visa office before volunteering.

Time: 2 to 4 hours a week for one term. Online or at an LA-area partner makerspace.

How to apply: book a 15-minute intro call and bring (1) a CV or portfolio link, (2) which course you’d teach or mentor, (3) one idea for a student research project. Applications are reviewed on expertise, teaching ability and fit; never on photos or appearance.

Research Fellows Call (students).

Who: adults 18+, especially community-college, CSU and university students, makers and career-changers.

What you do: take one course, complete its research deliverable (case study, build record, lab note, resilience report, or habitat brief), and present it in a 10-minute public session.

What you may receive: a certificate of completion issued by Perlas University (not academic credit or an accredited credential), your work published by the Perlas Foundation with your name (if you want), and a portfolio piece for jobs and grad school.

Cost: free. Kits at cost; kit scholarships by need, merit, portfolio and service. No photos requested.

Apply: book 15 minutes, or join the waitlist.
